A Sneak Peek at Sofrito's 'International Soundclash'

sofritodjs

In the context of the culinary world, sofrito is a mix of several spicy, flavorful elements, and the Sofrito that's become inseparable from DJ culture isn't too far afield from that description. Masterful mixmeisters/killer crate-diggers Hugo Mendez and Frankie Francis have been laying down an eclectic array of beats under the Sofrito banner for a good few years now, starting out with London warehouse parties and expanding in every direction from Paris to Brooklyn. Now Mendez and Francis are getting set to take your ears for a trip with the intensely grooving Afro-Latin sounds of their upcoming International Soundclash collection.

On July 24, Strut Records in the U.K. will release Sofrito's successor to their well received Tropical Discotheque mix, and International Soundclash seems set to make even more of an impact with its locomotion-inducing worldbeat bounty. Trinidad, Kenya, Colombia, Cameroon, and the Congo are among the areas ventured into by the eager ears of Mendez and Francis in search of sizzling sounds to spice up their mix. Both vintage cuts and up-to-the-minute artists can be found on International Soundclash, which includes everyone from Nidia Góngora of Quantic's Combo Barbaro and soca legend Lord Shorty to Les Difficiles de Petion-Ville from Haiti and Mas Ka Klé from Guadeloupe. Can't wait until the 24th to get your International Soundclash fix?
