Angostura Release 'Legacy by Angostura' for Trinidad and Tobago's 50th Anniversary of Independence

Queen Elizabeth II is not the only one commemorating a milestone this year as the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago is celebrating its 50th anniversary of Independence from the United Kingdom. To mark this joyous occasion, Angostura has created the world’s most expensive blend of rum, Legacy by Angostura.

Like all exceptional blends of spirits, the production of this rum is a labour of love for the Angostura master blenders, who have 50 years of experience between them, as it took six years to perfect the recipe. The final recipe consists of seven of the brand’s rare and precious rums with the youngest rum just 17 years old. All of the rums have been aged in old oak bourbon casks on site at Angostura’s distillery in Laventille.

Not only is the rum of the highest standard in the world, but the decanter, stopper and presentation box are also an unique collector item as well. Angostura engaged Asprey of London, jeweler to the Prince of Wales, to develop the limited edition decanters. Using ten different master craftsmen, it’s made of hand blown lead-free crystal with a sterling silver stopper of a rare Trinidadian butterfly and took over 56 hours to complete each decanter.

With only 20 decanters being released, this luxury rum is for serious rum connoisseurs as each bottle costed about 20,000 Euros. Now if you can’t afford the whole bottle, but still want to taste the greatest sipping rum ever produced, €1,400 (roughly $1,745) is all it  will take to have that honour. It might be worth it — it's a taste of history.
