Belle & Sebastian Tell More 'Late Night Tales'
It's only the most acclaimed and accomplished artists that get to contribute even one mix to the renowned Late Night Tales series, let alone two. The impressive list of artists who have shared their own inner record geek with the world via the LNT compilation series includes everyone from Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada to Sly & Robbie and The Flaming Lips. But when you get to come back around for a second turn at Late Night Tales, that's when you know you've really earned your stripes, as is the case with legendary Scottish indie-poppers Belle and Sebastian.
Back in 2006, shortly after wowing the world with their album The Life Pursuit, Belle and Sebastian unleashed their first LNT mix, which delved into realms of esoterica that included psychedelia, folk, and more. But for their return visit to the series, which is set for a March 26 release, they get into even more active spelunking in the caverns of musical history. Jazz harpist Dorothy Ashby, folk-rocker Bonnie Dobson, scrappy post-punks The Pop Group, and prog-leaning psych-pop duo McDonald & Giles are all part of the experience, but somehow, no matter how diverse the sounds on B&S mix II may be, they all seem to hang together as a multi-faceted sonic statement.
