Better Know a Blogger: Emily Johnston of Fashion Foie Gras
American-born and UK-based writer Emily Johnston founded Fashion Foie Gras in 2009. Since then the blog has taken off in providing fab updates to fashion hungry types all over the world on a 24/7 basis. (FFG's awesome tagline: "Where the good, the bad and the controversial in fashion news are force fed daily.") Johnston has become a style star in her own right and recently debuted her Fashion Foie Gras x Coach collab tote, which features blogger-friendly accents, such as, a discreet inner pocket to store a pair of flats (seriously, can all bags have that?) and a padded front-pouch for an SLR camera. On top of designing bags and running FFG, Johnston also finds time to contribute to Cosmopolitan, the Huffington Post, Glamour Magazine UK and Stylist Magazine. Lucky for us, we managed to steal a few moments of Johnston's time to get to know her a little bit better.
How did you get started in the blogosphere?
I just threw caution to the wind and started up a site. I wasn't entirely sure it was going to take off as there were already so many fashion blogs out there, but I just thought maybe there wasn't a voice like mine yet, so I thought I'd give it a go!
What is unique about Fashion Foie Gras?
I think it's unique because it's all written by me, first and foremost. That means really no one can replicate it. But that's what blogs are all about ... having a unique voice. I report on fashion news but I do it with a twist. I write to my readers like I'm reporting the daily news to them over coffee. I think it makes it much more fun for all those involved when it's written in that tone of voice.
What post/s are you most proud of?
That's a tough one. I've written nearly 6,000 posts! I'd say my most recent would have to be my Coach bag launch post. I still can't believe I've designed a bag with them. It was such an amazing project and being able to share all of it with my readers was absolutely amazing. It's been the best Christmas present for me!
Describe your personal style?
Oh man, I don't think I really have one. It's all over the shop although I think my friends would argue I'm die-hard American prep. That might have something to do with the fact that I worship at the feet of Ralph Lauren! Haha.
What's the best part of being Fashion Foie Gras?
Being able to say whatever I want on a daily basis and communicating with the world on the news and views that I think are really relevant. It might be something as ridiculous as a new t-shirt, but could be followed with a post about magazines causing anorexia in women. I like not being afraid to tackle issues but doing so in a way that is non offensive and rather more informative and kindly phrased ... if that makes sense! And of course I love communicating with everyone out there that reads the site. I have some great email exchanges going on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis with some loyal readers. I love it!
