Better Know A Blogger: Joe McPherson from ZenKimchi

Joe McPherson

We're going to act as midwives to this cocktail renaissance that is already happening in America and Europe and is just starting to come out in Asia.

During a recent sleepless night on recent trip to Seoul (I hate you, Mr. Jet Lag!) I discovered ZenKimchi, a local website founded by journalist Joe McPherson, an American who settled in Korea seven years ago. ZenKimchi presents handy information about the country's burgeoning food scene, and McPherson's team of writers are definitely in the know. The site, which began in 2004, also has the distinction of being the longest running Korean food blog. McPherson is about to branch out into presenting food walking tours and cooking classes. "They're going to be a lot of fun," explains McPherson. "The only stress we're going to have is excitement."

Another big project he's in the midst of planning is Seoul International Cocktail Expo (Seoul ICE), a new cocktail expo he's passionate about. Seoul ICE will take place in 2012 and will feature mixology demonstrations, seminars, and competitions where professional and amateur mixologists will compete to create innovative and original drinks.

"We're going to have different themed bars and bring in some of the largest celebrities in bartending," explains McPherson. "We're going to act as midwives to this cocktail renaissance that is already happening in America and Europe and is just starting to come out in Asia, particularly in Seoul."
