Big Fun In Little Luxembourg

NightlifeMelusina

Only 51 miles long, the country of Luxembourg may be little but within its territories it packs a pretty big punch. Soaring mountains and countryside nestle up to Luxembourg City, a place so pristine it looks like it should be a movie set. Here they speak Luxembourgish which sounds like a made-up language borrowing heavily from French and German. Know any of the latter said languages or English and you're fine here and nearly all residents are trilingual and then some.

Chances are you find yourself in little Luxembourg as a side trip or pass through but you owe it to yourself to devote at least 24 hours here to live it up. Here's where to go:

1. Melusina: Depending on the night Melusina fronts as a dance club or live music venue. Whatever the theme (could even be an '80s night or a Moët & Chandon party) is the night you find yourself here you won't be let down. This two-level spaces makes for an incredible dance floor surrounded by second floor lounge spaces, beautiful lighting and incredible sound. Special parties are often booked here as well (as seen at right).

2. Bypass: Formally known as "The VIP Room" this is the place Luxembourgers have long called their "home" for the best in electro music thanks to its full calendar of internationally known DJs. In addition it packs more to its agenda with special parties and plenty of fashion events (Luxembourg Fashion Week runway show seen at left in Bypass).

3. White: New to the scene and considered the rival to Bypass, White has hit the scene with a major splash and has the celeb cred to back itself up. The calendar here reads like a who's who of the music scene: from Flo Rida to Bruno Mars and David Vendetta. Live music, DJ sets and even an Al Pacino sighting are possible here. It's absolutely not-to-be-missed.

4. Tube Bar: Back in '99 a couple of friends, inspired by Luxembourg and perhaps one too many drinks thought, "let's open a bar here!" And they did just that taking the London tube as their inspiration but promising Luxembourgers a hip scene with great music and drinks. Today Tube Bar is still running strong and known for just those things. This is a great friendly place to start the night out.

5. Finally after a long night of dancing, mingling and soaking in Little Luxembourg — finish your evening on the "Gibraltar of the North" — the fortress of Luxembourg located in the rocky hills that surround the city known as the Bocks. It won't be hard to spot, its bold presence is virtually everywhere, encircling the city. One of the strongest fortresses in Europe this one dates back to the Bourbons and Haspburgs who strategically used it as protection. Today it makes a great place for a romantic stroll or killer way to take in the city.

And just like that your 24 hours has come and gone and you have probably found that it's just not enough time as lil' Luxembourg breaks into morning and the chocolate croissants and beautiful cobblestone streets are telling you not to leave.
