Daft Punk's Upcoming Album To Be Produced by Nile Rodgers

Nile Rodgers, the legendary dance music producer/artist/songwriter/frontman of '70s band Chic who was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in the fall of 2010, is now cancer free after an intense year and a half of treatment. Completely revitalized, he has a slew of new projects. Probably the most exciting are his plans to produce Daft Punk's next record, their long awaited follow up to 2005's Human After All. "Those guys are great," he said. "They're coming to my apartment on Monday and we’re going to talk about making a new record together."

Daft Punk have always liked funk, a style which has become more prominent throughout their career, with 2001's Discovery showcasing a more song oriented style over Homework's French house sound. Daft Punk are believed to be interested in making a more R&B centric album for which a professional like Rodgers will be most complimentary, his hand having brought funk to artists in the past like David Bowie and Madonna with chart topping results.

In addition to his tentative work with Daft Punk, Rodgers is also set to work on a theatrical production called Double Time, based on the life of Broadway producer Leonard Harper. The production is set to be workshopped this summer for a possible off-Broadway production for the 2012-13 season. This will be Rodgers first theatrical production but he says he is already working on two more for the future.

As for Daft Punk, they're also set to work on some new material with Noah Lennox, a.k.a. Panda Bear, for an upcoming project [via Pitchfork]. Whether Panda Bear's work with the duo will work its way into their Nile Rodgers album, only time will tell, but it should make for an interesting record.
