Disco Icon Giorgio Moroder Just Joined SoundCloud!

giorgiomoroder

You can encounter all kinds of unexpected things while roaming around SoundCloud, ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime, but here's a finding that undoubtedly occupies the latter camp. Feast your ears on a personal SoundCloud page for Giorgo Moroder, the man whose name is synonymous with Italo-disco, and who did as much as anyone to popularize the use of electronics in pop and dance music with his milestone productions on iconic tracks like Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and countless others.

From all appearances, Moroder himself put up the page just a couple of weeks ago, and filled it not only with some of his best-known soundtrack tunes, solo recordings, and productions for other artists, but some intriguing rarities and remixes as well. The humble tone of his SoundCloud bio is downright touching, reading "My name is Hansjörg "Giorgio" Moroder and during the last 50 years I made Pop-, Electro-, Disco-, Hi-NRG-, Rock- and Synthesizer-Music. In the '80s I created Soundtracks like Scarface, Metropolis, Neverending Story or Flashdance. Enjoy my tracks, some of them are rare."

Scrolling through, you'll find everything from an alternate version of Moroder's famed "Chase" instrumental from the Midnight Express soundtrack to a remix of his '80s electro-pop chestnut "Baby Blue." Along the way, you'll be reminded of how cool the American Gigolo soundtrack is and how far ahead of everyone other than Kraftwerk his mid-'70s synth jams were. P.S.: Hansjörg? Who knew?
