Etro Collection Makes A Nod To The Jazz Age
For SS 2012, it seems to be all that jazz for Etro… But not the dark and sultry sort. Etro's jazz is a new breed, one bursting with those hallmark Etro colors, audacious art deco references and metropolitan glamour. Veronica Etro and her menswear designing brother Ken, have expanded from the paisley and uptown-only aesthetic. Just look at Mario Testino’s seductive A/W 2011 ad campaign featuring Stella Tennant. Today Etro is creating lavish looks that young starlets yearn for just as much as residents of Park Avenue.
This season was no exception. We saw the runway show at Palazzo del Ghiaccio, also known as the "Ice Palace" and the défilée kicked off with hot new face, Daphne Groeneveld, in a deco-print knee-length skirt with matching halter-top in rust, sky blue and black. Model Jourdan Dunn cruised by in a breezy sheath that brought to mind the Harlem Renaissance. Also brimming with color, was a series of flapper numbers that ranged from Great Gatsby-esque metallic dresses, to knee-length mix-material dresses with glimpses of plissé or elegant silk fringe at the bottom. Some came with plunging necklines, while other looks had a more conservative rendition of the crew collar.
More definitive Geometric patterns crept into the mix in evening wear, embodying themes of both the ages and the label. An emerald green number, with crystallized black accents and ostrich embellishment on superstar Magdalena Frackowiak was breathtaking. A black deco-blocked kimono coat with camel piping is a must-have. The formalwear at the show took luxury to the max: Joan Small's noir bandeau halter dress cascaded into a roaring '20s silk grey fringe. Also stunning was a paisley choker-halter overflowing with gem tones and the last look — a voluminous pleated and creased black tent dress, with pops of burnt orange and amethyst.
Let the good times roll!
