Event Recap: Crystal Castles DJ Set at Flamingo [Gallery]
Fresh from recording in various cities around the world — including a stint in Berlin — Crystal Castles touched down at Berlin's Flamingo bar for a surprise DJ set over the weekend. Founder and club co-owner Conny Opper and model/fashionista Bonnie Strange stood out amongst the crowd on hand.
Spread out over two main rooms, festivities for the evening included resident DJ Marc-Alan Gray who spun throughout the night and live performances by rap-electro hybrid four-piece MUTFAK DRT and a solo set from Antoni Maiovvi atop a platform. Then around 3 am, the glitchy Canadian duo made its way to the DJ booth. Frontwoman Alice Glass sat down drinking hard liquor straight from the bottle and rocking lavender tresses while her partner Ethan Kath stood around drinking and occasionally putting on headphones to keep the danceable playlist going. Ever so often their own tracks would creep in. Relatively early in their set Kath got testy and aggressive, moving to physically strike a photographer. It was an out of character gesture for the club that seems built on positive vibes and arty inclusion. Nevertheless, the cocktails kept flowing, the pair remained anti-social, but the crowd kept dancing all the same.
