Expensive Taste: London Bartender to Pour £5,050 Cocktail
Throughout his career, bartender Salvatore Calabrese has accomplished such feats as serving the Queen of England and winning some of the industry's most illustrious awards. Next month he'll attempt to add another notch to his mixology belt by pouring the world's most expensive cocktail.
The £5,050 drink is set to one up the current record holding tipple, a £3,766 concoction served in Dubai in 2008. Dreamed up by Calabrese — a cognac expert with a spirits collection valued around £1m — the wallet assaulting cocktail will combine liquors dating back to the French Revolution. "For me the real achievement is to serve the oldest cocktail in the world," Calabrese told the London Evening Standard, adding that he's inspired by the idea of "tasting" history.
Ingredients in Calabrese's 'Old and Wise' creation include £4,000 worth of Clos de Griffier Vieux champagne cognac and 20ml of Kummel, poured from a £10,000 bottle produced in 1770. He plans to whip it up behind the bar at the London Playboy Club, but only for someone who will "...really appreciate it and all of the history that surrounds it,” he told the Standard. We can't help but wonder who the cocktail-enthused history buff will be. [via London Evening Standard]
