Happy Birthday, Utopias: Beer Aged in Bourbon Casks
Let's make one thing clear — there's beer, and then there's beer. And if it's the latter that you're interested in, direct your attention to the fine work of Samuel Adams founder/brewer Jim Koch. Beer connoisseurs know the Sam Adams brand as one that operates in the high-end, aiming at the most intense brewing experience possible. And for the 10th birthday of their barrel-aged Utopias, the company is celebrating in characteristically high style.
Besides being aged in dedicated bourbon casks, this exclusive, short run of Utopias saw the inside of an additional round of finishing casks, and is packaged in a unique decanter modeled after a brew kettle. There will only be 15,000 bottles of 10th anniversary Utopias made, and they'll be going for about $200 bucks a pop. So if you want to be a part of this unique little moment in brewing history, you'll have to pony up and act quickly.
