Hedi Slimane Talks Couture and His Favorite YSL Look to Vogue Paris
Could couture be returning to the house of Saint Laurent? According to newly-minted Creative Director Hedi Slimane, it's certainly a possibility. “Haute couture is a legitimate subject for Yves Saint Laurent and could resume one day,” he recently told Vogue Paris via email. In the interview, slated for the August issue and scheduled to hit French newsstands on Friday, Slimane also said that his first discussion with label CEO Paul Deneve took place in November. The revelation reconciled previous rumors that plans for the Dior Homme vet to unseat former creative head Stefano Pilati were in the works for years.
Though Slimane has no experience designing women's wear, he does have years of YSL looks to draw inspiration from, including his favorite one of all time, a pantsuit worn by a model that Helmut Newton photographed in 1975. Given his refined aesthetic and YSL's tradition of grandeur, we can't wait to see what he has up his seam. [via WWD]
