LCD + Hot Chip = Supergroup New Build on New Album

newbuildsmall

As distressed as admirers of LCD Soundsystem may be in the wake of that band's retirement in 2011, there's always that proverbial silver lining to look for in even the most unfortunate of circumstances. In this case, it seems the cessation of activity on the LCD front may have played a factor in allowing multi-instrumentalist Al Doyle (who has played with both LCD and Hot Chip) to focus on finishing the debut album by New Build. Doyle is joined behind the driver's seat of New Build by fellow Hot Chip man Felix Martin as well as engineer/composer Tom Hopkins.

While the sound they make together under the New Build moniker -- with help from friends like Janine "PLANNINGTOROCK" Rostron — is undoubtedly informed by the members' electronic-oriented dance-pop background, there are other influences present as well. Echoes of everything from R&B to Eno-esque art-pop can be heard in the four-song sampler the band has thrown online as a sneak peek at their forthcoming album. Yesterday Was Lived and Lost is set for an April 3 release via the band's own label, Lanark Recordings, and New Build will be performing all around the globe in March, utilizing a live lineup that's nine musicians strong in order to properly replicate the sound of the record.
