Modernized Crowns Hit the Auction Block

Crowns

Perhaps the most splashy symbol of royalty, crowns have been a regal accessory for centuries. Though many from decades past still dazzle with fine metals and precious gems, even age old accessories can benefit from a modern revamping. That was the idea behind a project launched by Harrods to celebrate the 2012 Diamond Jubilee. The retailer commissioned four crowns from some of fashion's most celebrated designers to decorate a window display throughout the festivities. Lanvin's Alber Elbaz and Roberto Cavalli both used jewel embellishments to make their creations more fanciful, while Paul Smith opted for decorative enhancements with historical undertones. Valentino kept his simple, save for a bit of shimmer. Today, the crowns went up for auction to benefit Macmillan Cancer Support. May the royal regalia bidding begin. [via Harper's Bazaar]
