My 2012: Kris Menace
Electro and house producer Kris Menace has been in the game for around 15 years, writing, producing and remixing, and working with Depeche Mode, LCD Soundsystem and Metronomy along the way, to name but a few.
Never one to kick back for too long, 2012 was a particularly prolific year for the German-born producer, who released two full-length albums, Electric Horizon and Features, as well as a string of singles. As well as fully unleashing Menace’s passion for authentic, melody-rich synth-pop and nostalgic electro, Features was the producer’s first vocal-driven project and featured a host of innovative collaboration, including tracks with Miss Kittin (as you’ve never heard her before), house producer Robert Owens and Simon Lord – who provided vocals for Justice’s “We Are Your Friends.” We checked in to see what he thought of 2012.
Proudest moment of 2012?
Must be when I was actually holding the all-finished, manufactured CD of my new album, Features, in my hand after months and months of hard work.
Best trip of 2012?
I went again to Brazil at the beginning of the year and whenever I get there, I’m all over the picanha [a rump steak cut popular in Brazil] and caldo de cana [sugar cane juice]!
Favorite clothing purchase of 2012?
My lovely HUF plantlife socks from Canada. I love those!
Favorite song of the year?
To be honest, I haven’t heard that much this year. I have been in the studio solidly, busy with my own productions and releases. Having said that, “Motionless” by Nhar is my electronic track of 2012.
Best night out?
I played my first fully live show with Hexstatic, launching my Electric Horizon album, at the Razzmatazz club in Barcelona. It was back in March, but it was definitely still one of my highlights of 2012.
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
More pizza!
Features is out now on Compuphonic.
