Shizaru Shows Cutting-Edge London Art in Time for Olympics

shizaruthisislondon

Everyone across the globe seems to coming down with a serious case of Olympic fever as the hour draws closer to the opening ceremonies in London. But with so much international action about to converge on the city, the Shizaru gallery decided to offer up an exhibition that focuses on the cutting-edge art coming out of London right now, establishing London's own artistic identity in time to appear before the throngs descending upon the town.

This Is London offers up innovative, often eccentric artistic visions that make up a snapshot of the London art aesthetic at this moment in time, wide-ranging as the pieces may be. There are 46 artists represented in the show, including everyone from Nick Hornby — no, not that Nick Hornby — to Whitney McVeigh, David Harrison and Alison Jackson.Whether you're up for a horse ensconced on what appears to be a bean bag sofa or a piece influenced by Victorian-era taxidermy, This Is London makes the most of the multi-cultural influences that have been a part of the London art scene long before the Olympics were ever scheduled for the city, but it presents them at an opportune time when the world's eyes are more sharply set on the city's cultural activity than ever.
