Société Perrier DJ Mix And Interview: RAC
DJ collective RAC have been a major factor in the remix world since their formation. Originally from Porto, Portugal, founding member André Allen Anjos started the group in 2007, and has gone on to score prime remix real estate on singles by The Shins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Washed Out, among several others.
RAC are famous for their live shows where they spin a vast mix of energetic bangers, but their latest mixtape is meant to show another side of the group's interests. "When we DJ, we play a lot of the remixes and a lot of our own work," says Anjos. "There's a whole lot of music out there we like and we don't always get a chance to play, maybe because it's too slow or too obscure. Mixtapes are a really fun way to throw out music we really like but don't really have a huge outlet for. This is what we're into right now, it doesn't necessarily sound like a lot of stuff we do."
This doesn't mean their latest mixtape is a collection of ambient works — it's packed with great pre-game party vibes, that Anjos adds "has more of a relaxed sound." He also likens the visual scenario for the mix to sitting beach side at sunset, coincidentally where Anjos was when we spoke with him.
While RAC are known almost exclusively for their remixes -- the acronym stands for Remix Artist Collective after all -- the group intends to put out an album of originals sometime this year. "We've been keeping it a secret for a year and a half now. It's been an exciting process. I don't want to pigeonhole it though. I mean I'm not going dubstep or anything like that. It's pretty much what you'd expect from the remixes, and the remixes are a pretty wide variety."
Considering this mixtape, the group clearly has a penchant for exquisite taste, which makes the anticipation for future releases all the more exciting. They will be playing at Brooklyn Bowl in New York this Saturday night. Check out their exclusive mix for Société Perrier.
