Sophia Webster Takes Us to Her Dollhouse [Gallery]
This past Saturday, London shoe designer Sophia Webster swept us away to a land filled with polka dots, bright colors and pastels. In her debut collection, "Welcome to the Dollhouse," models posed in barbie-esque packaging bearing the designer's name and slogans like "polka dot dreams," "aztec tribe-tastic" or "Rio funtime."
The former Nicholas Kirkwood apprentice sought inspiration from one of her favorite childhood animals, the flamingo. "When I was little my favorite animal was the unicorn and when I found out it wasn't real, I picked the flamingo," says Webster. The playful collection featured lots of printed vinyl and hand-painted materials created in Brazil, another source of inspiration for Webster. “I love the colors and the people of Brazil,” says Webster.
The standout piece of her collection were the thigh-high, orange and yellow aztec boots certain to be worn by daring celebrities in no time. Although Webster was only showing her first collection, her designs will soon be available stateside at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Kirna Zabete. Expect to see her candy-colored creations soon on the heels of chic women everywhere.
