CloudSourcing: Phonique

By Darren Ressler

Berliner Phonique (a.k.a Michael Vater) is one of the global club scene’s most respected purveyors of deep house music. A gifted producer and DJ who regularly treks around the world bringing deepness to the masses, Phonique always has his ears open for new music. Phonique shares five of the artists on SoundCloud currently piquing his attention.

Phonique’s Time for House 2 compilation is out December 3 on Ladies and Gentlemen.

1. Bruno Be
Bruno is one of the guys I met on one of my tours in Brazil; he provides a great approach to house music. He is a young gun, but his productions sound like he has been around for many years. We will have a few of his productions on my label Ladies & Gentlemen label, but on his SoundCloud page you will also find a lot of edits and reworks he made for his DJ sets in Brazilian clubs.

2. Maxim Lany
This Belgium-based DJ/producer might already be known to some DJs for his releases on his own label Lany Recordings. But I personally totally enjoy his different DJ sets on SoundCloud, where he is mixing it up with some slow and sexy music.

3. El Txef A
This DJ/producer, who based in Spain, is part of the Fiakun crew and plays and produces some amazingly deep house music. He manages to do it in a highly danceable way and when I listen to one of his DJ sets, it makes me wanna get each single track from the mix, so I can play them in my sessions too.

4. Hannes Fischer
This Berlin-based producer already became kind of popular through his remixes for Lana Del Rey, but I remember when I came across his early bootlegs and e-mailed with him to get an extended version of his Adele remix. He was nice enough to make a 6:24 version out of his originally 3:52 version — still thankful for that.

5. Nico Moss
This Greece based guy was sending me some of his edits/bootlegs two years ago and I was surprised how much his style suited my DJ sets. So when I got back to him, we were even thinking about what remix he should try next. It’s so much more enjoyable if people do these things for the love to the music and not for money and fame!
