JF & Son team with MAD Museum To Merge Design and Social Media

The digital era’s democratization of the fashion industry broaches new territory with the launch of a particularly stylish social media experiment.

Well known for their propensity for collaboration, designers Jesse Finkelstein and Katie King of New York-based label JF & Son have teamed up with the Museum of Arts and Design to launch @jfandson, a project that combines the design process with universal reach of Twitter as part of their three-month residency at the museum. The pair is calling on the public to tweet them (@jfandson) a description of an item of clothing, which can be a “mantra, or lyric” and as “vague or specific as you would like.”

Come the November 16 deadline, the tweets will be forwarded to the label’s Changshu studio in China where a collection’s worth of tweets will be selected and translated into wearable garments.

The collection will be on display at the Museum of Arts and Design starting January 8, 2013.
