Surf NYC - GabyGaby

Daubing colour onto the wall of a cave was the most primitive of art forms, but painterly strokes have been given at 21st century twist in a new exhibition at Mojo Gallery. Stick with us – here comes the technology… Incorporating augmented reality, visitors to Flower Power by multi-media artist GabyGaby can download a free app at the gallery from a QR code and, when you move your phone over each of the artworks, a cartoon strip appears to extend the story beyond the canvas on the wall. The collection itself is centred around MegaTulipMan, a superhero who does battle with evil penguins in Tokyo, surfs atop yellow cabs in New York, and travels from 2D paintings to new media in your hand.

Taking art buying to the next level, purchasers of Gaby’s work will also be given an app with twelve different enhancements that kick in each month to create a new narrative, so a scene may be dusted in snow come December to depict a wintery mood. Could this be the future of art?
