When it comes to art in the Middle East, the movement is not just coming to be respected, but recognised the world over and the artist we’re featuring, is no silent participant. Widely recognised as one of Iraq’s leading artists, with works on canvas, calligraphy and ceramics, Sarmad Al-Mussawi has just unveiled a series of works at Dubai’s La Galerie Nationale.
Sarmad has received great critical and popular acclaim for his many solo and group exhibitions around the world, earning him several awards and the opportunity to collaborate with various high profile partners.
Currently on show at La Galerie Nationale, are his acrylic and mixed media canvases including “Flying Noon, “Fan” and “Spirit”.
Of his decision to show Al-Mussawi’s works amongst his more traditional design art pieces, Gallery Director, Guillaume Cuiry comments: “We are committed to underlining the relevance and growing importance of the regional art market through our UAE gallery. I feel that Al-Mussawi’s art works are an excellent accompaniment to our core focus on 20th century designed objects, underlining the versatility of both and the timeless value of all artistic expression.”
