Spotted! Banksy In Dubai
The elusive street artist sadly won’t be spotted tucking into carrot cake at Lime Tree or propping up the bar at Barasti, but some of Banksy’s creations can be seen as part of Off The Wall: Street Art Legends at Pro Art Gallery in Jumeirah. Running until Feburary 15th, the exhibition also includes works by Richard Mirando, who is often referred to as The Godfather of Graffiti, LA-based French artist Thierry Guetta (aka Mr Brainwash) and renowned Russian urban muralist Vitaly Rusakov, aka Mizer.
In a town where the most graffiti we see is a hastily sprayed ‘Tupac rules’ or, more alarmingly, a public expression of love for Shaggy (that gem is on Satwa Road), it’s refreshing that the collection will also feature works from local artist Saif B Chilmiran who was born in Abu Dhabi in 1990. It’s one small step for street art, but one giant step for the UAE.
