Celebrate World Gin Day on 9th June
Have you noticed how there seems to be a ‘day’ for everything? Some are serious (World Hunger Day in May for instance) and others are just plain daft(national dress up your pet day in January, anyone?) but there are some that strike the right note.
Like World Gin Day on 9th June. Dutifully created by a twenty-something, gin-loving Brit Neil Houston, this global celebration of all things juniper is just the ticket for fellow gindred spirits.
Gin will be flowing in bars from Melbourne to Mumbai, San Francisco to London and we’re betting that a few bottles will be cracked open in homes around the globe too. Bombay Sapphire is even opening a pop-up bar in collaboration with Zenna Bar on World Gin Day.
With its cool makeover by Ross Hancock the bar includes a pretty nifty cocktail menu with exclusives such as the Summer Sapphire Sour and the Sambra Sapphire. If you can’t make it along to the Bombay Sapphire Blue Rooms at Zenna Bar, Soho on the 9th, try making this Bombay Aviation which will be on the menu until September:
Ingredients
60ml Bombay Sapphire
15ml Luxardo Maraschino (dry cherry liqueur)
15ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
5ml Crème de Violette (violet liqueur)
Ice cubes
Method
Place all ingredients into a cocktail shaker, add lots of cubed ice then shake really well. Fine strain into a chilled coupette glass then garnish with a zested lemon peel twist over drink and then discard. Finish with a fresh Maraschino cherry in the bottom of the glass.
