Hot Hotels: Amano, Berlin
There is no denying it, Berlin is an uber-cool city with a whole host of modern, luxury hotels and apartments. Hotel Amano is just that, centrally located in the trendy Mitte area of the German city it offers a selection of modern rooms and apartments as well as a cool rooftop bar with views over Berlin (it’s the place to be seen sipping cocktails in Berlin), and a swish indoor restaurant, bar and garden on the ground floor.
The hotel has 163 rooms but the real gems are the XL luxurious apartments which have a separate bedroom, two bathrooms, huge living area with kitchen, and are decked out in some very sexy artwork. On a recent trip to the city I moved into one of the apartments, I say moved in because you could actually live in these apartments, and I was surprised to find Miss Jolie hanging in our living room, that's right Angelina was in the living room - well a pretty huge picture anyway!
The rooms are reminiscent of a showroom in Heals, in that they are kitted out with the latest chic furnishings. The beds are comfy, the kitchen has all the equipment you'd ever want or need should you want to knock yourself up some food or a drink and there is even a sachet of popping candy on the pillow in case you want to get things crackling in the bedroom - in fact the only grumble we had was that the bath products weren't up to much.
Breakfast is served long and late with a huge selection of freshly made goodies from croissants to bacon and eggs. There is free WiFi, computers for guests to use, some lovely bicycles and local maps with handpicked bars and restaurants.
Over at the Amano’s sister hotel, the Mani, located just a five minute walk away things are a little more sexier with some rather risqué artwork, a restaurant serving foie gras burgers and small rooms which are dark and sexy. Mani has just 63 rooms and feels exclusive and intimate while still being in the heart of the action. Both hotels wouldn't be out of place on the east London scene and let’s face it who doesn't want to share a room with Angelina Jolie?
