If You Only Do Five Things This Week - Jul 23

Five Things Green

Release: Out today is the second album proper from wonderfully abstract popsters Micachu & the Shapes. ‘Never’ is released on Rough Trade records and builds upon its predecessor ‘Jewellery’ by repeating its best bits and then expanding the production values towards the outer fringes of pop sensibility, until it reaches sweet experimentalism.

Download: Matthew Dear has a new album out soon called ‘Beams’ and you can download the slow burn yearn of ‘Her Fantasy’ right here. This preview is full of lush synths and funky tropical beats that lull the listener into the beginning of a sultry summer soundtrack.

Gig:A Love From Outer Space’ is the new night from acid-house-indie legend Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnson, which has been going down a storm in Stoke Newington and makes its debut in Brixton this Saturday. Billed as ‘an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity’ this is a night like no other before it and comes with support from Eskimo Twins and Slide residents. Not to be missed.

Festival: There is only one festival worth talking about this week in London and that is the Festival of Sport known as the Olympics. Yes, London 2012 kicks off this weekend with what promises to be an awesome opening ceremony created by Danny Boyle. There are also gigs in Hyde Park, the arrival of the torch and hopefully some gold medals along the way… let’s just pray the sun stays outs and the tube doesn’t suffer fatigue!

Club: It is all about drum & bass royalty this Friday at Fabric with huge sets from DJ Hype and LTJ Bukem in the main rooms. If these two heavyweights aren’t enough there are more champion sounds from Grooverider, Pascal and Artificial Intelligence playing all night long till six in the morning.
