Talking Fashion With Luxury Label Beulah

beulah_natasha and lavinia

Luxury British fashion label Beulah is a fashion brand with a difference.

When you buy any of the super-flattering feminine pieces from their collections you make a small but valuable contribution to helping a survivor of human trafficking in India break from the poverty cycle as the label employs victims of human trafficking to manufacture their clothes and accessories.

Given these credentials it’s no wonder that the ethical label has caught the attention of celebs such as Kate and Pippa Middleton, Sienna Miller and Jessica Alba, all whom have all been snapped in Beulah.

Previously only available in a handful of boutiques, Beulah has just launched its online store and as the label goes digital we took the opportunity to catch up with its two founders Lady Natasha Rufus-Isaacs and Lavinia Brennan to get an idea what Beulah’s all about.

So many celebs wear your label, what's the coolest party one of your pieces has made its way into and who was wearing it?
Livia Firth wore one of our dresses at Chateau Marmont in LA earlier this year.

Which of your dresses would you suggest for the following: a first date, a polo match, a music festival?
The red ‘Sonia’ dress is a knock out dress, and the colour so vibrant, it would definitely make an impact on a first date. The ‘Blossom’ dress would be best for a polo match; very feminine but at the same time very sophisticated. The ‘Poppy’ dress would be perfect for a music festival as it has a more Boho, 70s vibe.

What inspires your designs? And do you have a style icon or two?
We love Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s style; it’s effortless, chic, always very classic and demure. We also love Queen Rania of Jordon’s style, she is timeless and elegant. We are inspired by the vibrant colours of India, and love the Ossie Clark 70s dresses which are so chic and easy-to-wear.

Are you both immaculately turned out every day, or do you have any fashion mistakes you'd like to confess to?
Natasha: I’m not at all immaculately turned out - work is so full on at the moment, I tend to grab the first thing that falls out of my wardrobe. Lavinia definitely scores high on that front, and looks great without a scrap of makeup!

Kate Moss said in the papers this week that British women show too much flesh in the summer. What do you think and what would you suggest to cover up?
Beulah's style is quintessentially British; sophisticated and feminine. Our dresses are ideal for occasions such as a christening or wedding where showing too much flesh would be inappropriate. At Beulah our philosophy is to either show off a bit of cleavage, or back, or legs, but never all three at once!
