Underground Vodka Den Pops Up in Covent Garden

Pop-up bars at this time of year tend to fall into one of two categories: twee wooden-clad ski chalet or keep-you-coat-on-indoors ice palace.

Mercifully this new underground bar is neither.

Tucked away beneath the Forge Restaurant, and a stone’s throw from Covent Garden’s Floral Street, Vestal Vodka Vaults is a dark, lush den that mixes old and new décor with style.

As its name suggests this is a pop-up bar with a vodka bent, so much so in fact that The Vaults has a strict ‘no gin’ policy.

Vodka it is then, and with a mouth-watering list of cocktails to choose from, including one designed by Callooh Callay’s Victor Nordelof, there’s no need to mention the ‘g’ word.

Nordelof’s creation - curiously titled I Am The Moon - is a silky blend of Vestal Podlasie and Creme de Cacao, while the Espresso Flip (Vestal Kaszebe rye, egg white, Brazil nut syrup and espresso) sounds equally as delicious.

To accompany the drinks, a selection of food from upstairs at The Forge is available.

All this and no fake snow - marvellous!

Vestal Vodka Vaults is open now until December 21.
