Upcoming Event: Vintage Festival
20th century culture in all its guises is celebrated at the Vintage Festival, which takes place Boughton House, Northants next month.
Very much a festival with a difference Vintage throws to together music, fashion, art, design and film from the 1920s to the 1980s. Across three days Britain’s creative and cultural hotbed is celebrated in the grounds of Boughton House stately home.
Whether you’re into disco, swing, funk, ska, mod or rockabilly there’s a music arena for you featuring bands and DJs playing music from the scenes’ heydays.
Bands and DJs appearing this year include Chic, Sergio Mendes, Aloe Blacc, The Damned, Terry Francis, Danny Rampling, Norman Jay and Sean Rowley.
Away from the music festival goers can learn to dance, visit catwalk shows, enjoy food and cocktails from bygone days and get stuck into some vintage shopping at the numerous stalls and markets.
Speaking about Vintage, the festival’s founder Wayne Hemingway told Channel 4: “Vintage is about celebrating timeless design and timeless music.
“For example, we have a venue called The Warehouse, which is an open-air section of Vintage, and when you listen to Norman Jay or Andy Weatherall playing a track from 1986 it sounds just as fresh to a 16 or 17-year-old as it did to clubbers in the 80s because it’s just great music.”
As well as The Warehouse, other music arenas include The Soul Casino (70s soul), Leisure Lounge (mod, hipster beats), Let It Rock (rock & roll), Torch Club (40s swing and tap) and Roller Disco (70s disco).
