4 Los Angeles Labor Day Parties Worth Staying Up Late For
In L.A., the parties never stop if you know where to look. Take this weekend — like every other one, it’s filled with celebrations, but Labor Day means an extra day off work and an excuse to kick it up a few notches. Here are a few carefully selected fêtes to start and end the weekend with a bang. Fair warning: a lot of them are by pools. But that’s just how we like it. Let the merrymaking begin.
1. Saturday, September 1: Swell City Presents— The Endless Summer Sample Sale
In the mood to play it low key or maybe just kill two birds and find an outfit for the night while hanging out in a cool space? Space 15Twenty, the avant-garde gallery where Tavi Gevinson recently closed out her Strange Magic art show, is teaming up with Swell City to throw an end of the summer bash and sample sale. LAVUK, Shred Threads Vintage and Costella handbags will be among the brands for sale. The event will also showcase mixed media art from Dawn Anderson and feature tunes from producer Blak Nite. 2. Saturday, September 1: WE OWN THE NIGHT
L.A.’s underground scene shows no sign of stopping. The latest is WE OWN THE NIGHT, a member’s only after-hours party from the creator of Nitty Gritty. It favors the urban art movement and DJs who play underground house and dirty disco. Like its fellow contenders Harvey’s Sarcastic Disco and Making Shapes, the location is announced the night of via email. 10 pm to 6 am, Address TBD
3. Sunday, September 2: 2 Hotel Pool Parties Featuring DJs
Ok, let’s be real. You have tomorrow off and all you want is to be by a body of water, drink in hand. We’ve got you covered: in Downtown, Harmonic Productions is hosting a Burning Man style party at The Standard. Titled Bask, the soiree features DJ Koze and Dance Spirit. Not to be left behind, Drai’s Hollywood Dayclub is sure to feature some champagne popping alongside high-energy tracks by Tommy Trash.

4. Monday, September 3: 2 Vegas Style Blowouts
On Monday it’s time to do it all over again. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is throwing the much-anticipated Wet Closing Party. This year, DJ Dan is on the bill alongside a bevy of other DJs. The $35 entry includes a wristband that also will admit patrons to the ‘Dry’ after party at Teddy’s. Only 300 tickets will be sold, so get yours early. Meanwhile, The Standard Hollywood is letting A Club Called Rhonda take over the space with a line up that includes Peanut Butter Wolf and Them Jeans. Best of all? This party is free with RSVP.
