April Luca's Boozy Ice Cream
April Luca has been at the top of the game in event production for over a decade. In 2011, after much success as a team, she and David Judakan formed DNA Events, Inc., a full service executive event production and catering company that is showing Los Angeles a new way to throw a party.
Aside from the challenges of keeping her clients happy and throwing well-received parties, DNA takes pride in staying ahead of the curve by developing new concepts and themes that will work into their events. The past few years have seen a growing popularity in mixology and Luca noticed that things were starting to get a bit dull. After brainstorming with one of her clients who wanted something interesting, an ice cream and alcohol fusion called Boozy Ice Cream Bar was born.
Boozy Ice Cream Bar and its “Boozy Babes” (the ladies who serve the tasty concoctions) are quickly growing in popularity. Luca credits the success in part to the tasty recipes as well as the catchy names; “Drunken Girl Scout,” for example, tastes just like the popular Girl Scout “Thin Mint” cookie and was a hit for summertime events. Luca also expects “Santa’s Little Helper,” with a recipe that includes rum, chocolate ice cream, orange chunks, and bitters to be a fan favorite over the holidays.
Though some of the Boozy Ice Cream Bar standout cocktails have stayed favorites throughout the year, Luca says they are always developing new recipes. “Tastings are so much fun,” she explains, “We custom design cocktails for each event based on the client’s needs, theme of the event, and season.” Luckily, in Los Angeles, the weather is always great for ice cream. We can’t wait to try this season’s “Candy Cane” and “Snowball Fight” drinks!
