C by Karina in Beverly Hills is where celebs go to seek shelter from the media storm. A-listers slip in en masse in to Karina’s chic boutique to buy the perfect paparazzi savvy sunglasses to see and be seen in. Britney, Brangelina, JLo, Jay Z, LL, Cee Lo, Kanye and all of The Olsens are but a few who rely on Karina’s expertise.
This L.A. native has been working in optical shops since she was 16. Growing up in a time when the boutique brands were just starting to make their mark, Karina was the first to place an order for the then emerging Dita sunglass line in an L.A. optical shop - That is one of Karina’s many definitive niches: she sources the smaller more unique, cutting edge bespoke brands and blows them out of the water.
In her now trendy boutique on Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills, you will see the Dita’s, Benjamin eyewear and the Garret Leight’s, an Oliver People’s heir. All of these cutting edge, smaller lines are L.A.-based designers, yet made in Japan.
“L.A. is a great market as everyone in L.A. needs sunglasses and everyone here is very fashion forward.” Karina has had a booming business since she originally set up shop on the iconic Robertson Boulevard over a decade ago. Karina was way ahead of the then curve, courting several stylists and celebs on a daily basis accessorizing for music videos, photo shots and film sets.
She has since moved shop to Beverly Blvd. in Beverly Hills a bright, chic, minimalist boutique with an elegant chandelier. She calls the place a bit “Blingy-er” with the noted chandelier. That aside, it is business as usual. “It worked before, Why not do it again?” If you want to stay ahead of Karina’s curve and shop like a local, she sees Beverly Drive as the next Robertson. “Tourists shop on Rodeo. Locals come to Beverly.”
“People in LA, especially celebs want something different.” Different she delivers in spades. “I go all around the Midwest, San Fran and around the world to source rare vintage frames. I can get almost anything that any one requests. It may take me a while, but I always come through.”
