CloudSourcing: SMOG Records

SMOG Records

Devotees of all thing dubstep are familiar with 12th Planet's SMOG Records, a scrappy lil' indie that's released big records by the likes of Skrillex, Kill The Noise, Datsik, Excision, Plastician and many others since its inception in 2006. In advance of the imprint's six-year anniversary taking place on November 23 at The Roxy in Los Angeles, five artists from the label's roster — FlinchAntiserum, Noah DKelly Dean and Pawn — offer up their favorite producers on SoundCloud.

1. Crizzly (Flinch)
I was searching SoundCloud for more hip influenced bass tracks and stumbled upon Crizzly. I started following him and watched his profile start to blow up, so I decided to book him for what I believe was his first L.A. show.

2. Baauer (Antiserum)
Noah D sent me a link to Baauer's SoundCloud, and I remember flipping out after listening to his tune "Dum Dum." I think I played it 50 times in a row!

3. Blackleg (Noah D)
This past April SMOG ran a remix competition via SoundCloud for "Just Right" feat. The Grouch which was the first single off my debut album, Perspective. We had tons of entries but Blackleg's really stood out for its musical elements smooth hip-hop vibes. He also chopped up the original sounds and used them in different ways in the arrangement which I really like to hear in a remix.

4. Deafblind (Kelly Dean)
I came across Deafblind from a mutual producer I follow and began liking his music. It was consistent with the vibe of most people I follow on SoundCloud but with a edgy dark stepping vibe. I enjoy his productions mainly because he's into the deep dark sound.

5. Jacques Greene (Pawn)
I found out about Jacques Greene through a friend of mine commenting on one of his tracks a couple years ago. Blew me away how effortless he fused the new school bass music sound and '90s house ethos. I have been keeping up on his productions and buying every release since.
