Skrillex and DeadMau5 Duke It Out Smart Phone Style at the Grammys
While no one saw the victory at the big show last night, Skrillex cleaned house at the 54th Annual Grammys, winning three awards, Best Dance/Electronica Album and Best Dance Recording for "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for "Cinema." Multiple nominee Deadmau5 was shut out completely in the three categories he was nominated in, which led to a small off screen battle between the him and Skrillex, or at least within in the limits of their cell phones.
After winning the clutch of awards, Skrillex texted Deadmau5 with the playful jab, "u mad bro?" Deadmau5 responded not via text, but by quickly getting the message along with Skrillex's phone number on a plain black T-shirt which we wore onto the read carpet. As far as pranks go, that's pretty quick thinking. Skrillex took it in his stride though, tweeting, "Haha @deadmau5 just wore my phone number on his fokin shirt on tv gotta retire this phone." He also then tried flipping the prank back, attempting to reroute his calls to Deadmau5's phone, to which the DJ intercepted early, "Nice try with the call forwarding @skrillex ...one step ahead of you! Ps. Congrats dude! Seriously, so rad!"
Deadmau5 didn't seem too upset either about losing out at the Grammys, having performed alongside David Guetta, Chris Brown, and Foo Fighters, who he collaborated with on a live remix of "Rope," later tweeting, " No grammys for me. Oh well, I get to hang out with Dave grohl, and that's pretty fuckin rad! Hahaha."
Skrillex remained overjoyed but humbled by his big win. Having only been in the public eye for less than 18 months, he clearly still recognizes the great fortune he's had with his quick rise to fame, tweeting to his fans, "If I can win grammys then that means all you yet to be seen bedroom geniuses will one day TAKEOVER THE WORLD."
