The Churchill Glams Up Classic Cocktails
"You're about to fall in love with me in about two seconds," the cheeky bartender says as he sets down my drink. My evening at The Churchill, a recently opened gastropub on 3rd Street, started with a bang with the Revolver cocktail.
So I didn't fall instantly in love with bartender AJ, who could be Ashton Kutcher's double, but the Revolver's fire roasted infused Herradura Blanco tequila mixed with xocolati mole and hibiscus reduction certainly heated up the situation.
With L.A.'s craft cocktail movement in full swing, while The Churchill has a dozen craft beers on tap, the cocktails are worth the swig. Most of the Churchill cocktails are glammed up versions of classics like the Cucumber Julep, Pimm's Cup (made with strawberries and cucumber), and an Old Fashioned with Woodfood Reserve.
A few, like the Revolver and the Pike, crank it up a notch by swirling in some odd vegetation that will at least incite twitterpation.
On the weekends after ten, The Churchill turns into a double decker club with DJs, two bars, and a line down the block. If you miss happy hour on weekdays from 4-7 pm, you can make up for it during the late-night weekend happy hours.
