The Mondrian Music Sessions With Nosaj Thing
The Mondrian Sessions have quickly become one of the hottest gigs for new names in the music circuit – and they’re not taking place in a club, but around a pool. Talk about non-traditional.
Last year featured bands and DJs like Lykke Li, Feist and SBTRKT playing poolside at the Mondrian hotel’s glamorous Skybar.
The specially curated series debuted with Chairlift this year on January 17. After the electronic pop duo’s hit “Bruises” appeared in an iPod Nano commercial, their “Evident Utensil” music video was nominated in the “Breakthrough Video” category at the MTV Video Music Awards. Since then members of Chairlift have done some interesting collaborations with groups like Washed Out and Holy Ghost!. Patrick Wimberly of Chairlift also produced American rap group Das Racist’s most recent release, Relax. Look for their newest album, Something, later in January.
Nosaj Thing will continue the tradition on February 23. Also known as Jason Chung, this Coachella-veteran has amassed a huge following in Los Angeles. Known for his ethereal synth-based instrumental hip-hop and collaborations with artists such as Kid Cudi and Kendrick Lamar, Thing’s beats will provide the perfect soundtrack to a poolside night at Skybar.
