Dulce Pinzón, Plasmando Fantásticos Personajes
Dulce Pinzón es una fotógrafa mexicana reconocida por su trabajo documental donde expone a los personajes de los que habla en bellas composiciones con un toque de fantasía. El mensaje, siempre importante en la obra de Pinzón, se trata con un cierto humor en fotografías a color. Migración, artistas y otras interesantes personas cuentan historias desde los ojos de esta artista que radica en la ciudad de Puebla.
¿Por qué has decidido instalarte en Puebla, después de vivir en Nueva York, y contrario a lo que muchos artistas aplican de vivir y trabajar en la ciudad de México?
Me mudé a la ciudad de México y viví ahí dos años, después de vivir 15 en Nueva York. En principio fue un cambio extremo, en algunos aspectos muy negativo pero en otros fue muy interesante. Sin embargo, por cuestiones de ubicación y calidad de vida mi pareja y yo decidimos mudarnos a Puebla para criar a nuestros hijos y estar en una ciudad un poco menos problemática pero cercana al Distrito Federal.
¿Cuáles son tus tres lugares favoritos en Puebla?
Difícil porque esta ciudad es muy contrastante. Me gusta el centro de la ciudad, me gusta Cholula y mi casa, es muy tranquila y acogedora.
¿Cuáles son tus tres lugares favoritos en Nueva York?
Ésta sí está difícil porque me gustan más bien de acuerdo a la estación. En primavera me encanta caminar por Central Park, perderme entre los árboles floreciendo. Me encanta la energía ecléctica de Williamsburg, mi hogar adoptivo forever, y me encantaba en verano ir a la playa en Far Rockaway. Un paseo en metro me llevaba hasta ahí en una playa "alejada" pero dentro de la ciudad. Era fantástico tener tantos sitios tan increíbles en una sola ciudad.
Me contaron que estás a punto de sacar un libro, y por lo que vi tiene que ver con tu serie de "Superhéroes", cuéntame más al respecto.
Sí, ¡mi libro al fin! Ha sido un proyecto por sí solo y ahora que ya lo tengo en mis manos es un sentimiento de profunda satisfacción. La editorial es RM y este mes de junio saldrá a la venta. Para mí este libro significa coronar un gran proyecto con un gran libro.
Si no te dedicaras a la fotografía, ¿qué crees que harías?
Quizás hacer video.
Tu fotografía es a la vez documental y a la vez construcción de personajes, ¿qué te lleva a combinar la realidad con un tanto de ficción?
Me encanta crear "realidades" basadas en historias ficticias que llegan a mi cabeza y que materializo a través de puestas en escena muy cuidadas y realizadas con sumo detalle. Me emociona transmitir emociones y sensaciones esperando construir reflexiones a partir de ellas. Me encanta lo que hago y cómo lo hago.
A partir de los personajes que creas, ¿cómo es que Dulce Pinzón ve a la gente? ¿Qué cosas te llaman la atención?
No sé, cada persona tiene un encanto peculiar pero siempre me siento atraída por las personas que quizás no son como el resto; quiero decir, me atraen las personas que parecen pertenecer a otra época, que piensan diferente al común, que irradian belleza por ser únicas, los locos, las divas....
Entre los múltiples premios que has ganado está el Perrier Art Contest para Zona MACO el año pasado, cuéntame del proyecto que desarrollaste.
Pues pensé en que el agua Perrier tuviera un contexto desértico y pedí a Vincent de Los Rebel Cats y Andy, su hermosa esposa, que posaran enfrente y arriba de un león disecado en las instalaciones de un ex-museo de Historia Natural aprovechando que mi serie "Historias del Paraíso" se estaba haciendo ahí. Resultó una foto muy espectacular, algo fuera de contexto y bella a la vez.
Estamos impacientes por ver nuevas cosas tuyas, ¿nos adelantas algo?
Sí, ya vienen más fotos de la serie "The Wonderful Life of Andy" en donde estoy dejando fluir mi imaginación creando escenas lúdicas, barrocas, clichés, quizás para ilustrar la vida de la bella Andy. Después pienso tomarme un break chiquito porque nace mi segundo bebé y continuar con otra serie que tiene matices sociales siguiendo mi gusto por la foto construida, ¡ya verán!
Dulce Pinzon is a Mexican photographer known for her documentary work which exposes the characters she speaks about in beautiful compositions with a touch of fantasy. The message, always important in the work of Pinzón, is treated with some humor into color photographs. Migration, artists and other interesting people tell stories through the eyes of this artist who lives in the city of Puebla.
Why did you decide to settle in Puebla, after living in New York, and contrary to what many artists do to live and work in México City?
I moved to México City and lived there for two years, after living 15 in New
York. Originally, it was an extreme change, in some aspects very negative but in others it was very interesting. Nonetheless, for reasons of location and quality of life my partner and I decided to move to Puebla to raise our children and live in a city less problematic and close to México City.
What are your three favorite places in Puebla?
It’s difficult because this city is very contrasting. I like the downtown, Cholula and my house, very quiet and cozy.
What are your three favorite places in New York?
This is difficult because it depends on the season. In spring I love to walk in Central Park, getting lost among the trees bloom. I love the eclectic energy of Williamsburg, my adoptive home forever, and in the summer I loved going to the beach in Far Rockaway. A subway ride took me up there to a beach "away" but within the city. It was so great to have so many amazing sites in one city.
I heard that you are about to publish a book, and from what I knew has to do with your set of "Superheroes", tell me more about it.
Yes, my book at last! It was a project by itself and now that I have it in my hands is a feeling of deep satisfaction. The publisher is RM and will be released this June. For me this book means to crown a large project with a great book.
If you weren’t doing photography what would you do?
Maybe I’ll be doing video.
Your photography is both documentary and construction of characters, what brings you to combine reality with a bit of fiction?
I love to create "realities" based on fictional stories that come to my head and materialize them through manicured staged and performed in great detail. I'm excited to convey emotions and feelings hoping to build ideas from them. I love what I do and how I do it.
From the characters you create, how is that Dulce Pinzón sees people? What things do you notice?
I do not know, each person has a particular charm, but I always feel attracted to people who may not be like the rest, I mean, I’m attracted to people who seem to belong to another era, who think differently from the common, who radiate beauty to be unique, the insane, the divas....
Among the many awards you've won, there’s the Perrier Art Contest for Zona MACO last year, tell me about the project you developed.
Well I thought that Perrier must had a desert context and asked Vincent of The Rebel Cats and Andy his beautiful wife to pose in front and on top of a stuffed lion in an ex- museum of Natural History building while I was doing my series "Historias del Paraíso", and it turned out a very dramatic picture, something out of context and beautiful at once.
We are eager to see new things from you, can you give us a preview?
Yes, more photos from the series "The Wonderful Life of Andy" are coming. In them I'm letting my imagination flow creating playful scenes, baroque, clichés, perhaps to illustrate the life of the beautiful Andy. Then I will take a tiny break because my second baby will be born and later continue with another serie that has social nuances following my love for picture built, you'll see!
