Artists Eye the Bay for Art Basel Installations

GatorintheBay

Foregoing the traditional route of erecting an installation in a gallery or park, artists Lloyd Goradesky and Dr. Petra Liebl-Osborne plan to put works in Miami bays for Art Basel 2012. Goradesky's proposed "Gator in the Bay" installation will consist of a 230-foot barge with an alligator head attached to it. Photo tiles depicting Floridian nature will make up the body, with Goradesky sourcing recycled metals for the head. While onlookers will likely be inclined to admire the piece from afar, the same may not be true for Liebl-Osborne's work. The artist hopes to add a floating swimming pool to the waters next to the Miami River International Contemporary Fair. If Art Basel ushers in the same over-the-top revelry it usually does, we can bank on at least one person attempting to take a dip. [via Miami New Times]
