Better Know A Blogger: Vintage Mavens
Lots of trendsetters try their hand at vintage but no one puts together ensembles like Shareen Sarwar of Vintage Mavens. With both a blog and a vintage store under her belt, the Miami resident continually finds a treasure trove of clothing from past decades. Sarwar spoke to us about her fans, her favorite photoshoot so far and what she likes to do when she's not uncovering incredible vintage finds.
How did you get started in the blogosphere?
Shareen Sarwar: I started the blog about a year ago to act as a supplement to my vintage clothing store. I wanted our customers to get an inside, more personal look at Vintage Mavens through the blog.
How did you pick the name of your site?
A maven is an expert. A vintage maven is someone who is a vintage expert. It seemed to fit what we were trying to do perfectly.
What do readers get from your site they can't get on other sites?
I think we have a great blend of style and photography all set in a Miami backdrop.
Which of your posts are you most proud of and why?
Jorge (my husband and photographer) did a series of film photographs in the Everglades. It's full of gorgeous settings, pastel colors, and even a Great Dane!
Describe your style. How does your background factor into your look?
I am definitely a minimalist. I love wearing neutrals. It is a trait I inherited while working in New York City. For the blog, however, I like to step out of my usual style and try on bold colors and different silhouettes.
Do you have any stories about your fans?
Our readers are amazing. I can't quite get used to the idea that people are actually reading what I have to say and like what I have to offer. The other day, I went to see a band play and two girls recognized me. We spoke for a while about vintage, Miami, and the blog. It was a great experience.
My best fashion memory is….
Being able to assist on a Women's Wear Daily photo shoot with Bobbi Queen.
When I am not blogging I like to…..
Drink way too much coffee, listen to David Bowie, and watch superhero movies with my husband and three dogs.
