The Breakwater Hotel Debuts New Look
Everyone knows the iconic Breakwater Hotel, smack dab in the center of historic Ocean Drive, which has been undergoing a $20 million renovation. The old dame still looks the same, with its beautiful Art Deco façade, but inside you’ll find modern luxuries, think modern furnishings, flats-screen TVs and iPod docking stations and 100 sleek rooms and suites, as well as entertainment spaces including the rooftop Intimissi Lounge, wellness garden and the new restaurant NINE.
There’s a style for everyone in the new spaces: The Intimissi Lounge is a cozy rooftop sanctuary with sprawling daybeds, plush loveseats and unobstructed panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Two floors below, the Wellness Garden is a poolside retreat where guests can relax in cabanas, enjoy massages and wade in the floating lap pool. If you want to beach-it, the hotel’s guest-only beach zone is located directly across Ocean Drive, offering lounge service along with a variety of water sports. At night, it transforms to party central with live music and DJs.
But by far our favorite upgrade is the spectacular 40-foot-long aquarium-style pool. Underwater you can wave at pedestrians on Ocean Drive Open — hello! — and view the Atlantic Ocean straight ahead. It’s fun on a hot day and an even hotter night.
