Christian Dior x Anselm Reyle Camo-Themed Pop-Up Opens
Art Basel who? Sorry, but we're very distracted by the Christian Dior x Anselm Reyle concept pop-up shop that just threw its doors open in the Design District. Now we had a hint of this inspired collaboration between the legendary Parisian design house and edgy contemporary German artist back in October and turns out that the partnership is an even bigger deal for two major reasons. According to WWD, is Dior's first ever venture into the pop-up shop arena and Reyle has never collaborated with a fashion brand before. Well, the two have seriously gone all out for this grand occasion.
First off, the pop-up shop is pretty sizeable — 3100 square feet to be exact — and it's filled with bright, gleamy, contemporary arty and multi-media concepts that art aficionados have come to expect from Reyle. And in your face glam luxury that we all expect from Dior. There's kicky camo everywhere — from the food truck (yes, a food truck!) sitting outside the pop-up to the killer platform sandals on offer — plus of video screens featuring walls of metallic neon clutches. Reyle also created two pieces of original artwork for the pop-up. There's the eight foot tall "Mauve Earth", which was painted on the exact same camo-canvas that the Dior x Reyle totes are made from. Silver Mylar foil (one of Reyle's favorite materials, apparently) and "DIOR" in neon letters make up the second piece.
But there's more. So much more. We're sensing an Art Basel theme here, but there's a plush camo-covered nail salon in back offering free manis (did anyone tell Dzine?!) and there are parties and DJs — big name ones. Throughout the pop-up's two week run there will be bashes with Harley Viera Newton and Mia Moretti at the turntables. There's even a "game night" on Thursday hosted by Dior's super chic artistic director of costume jewelry Camille Micelli. What are the games, you ask? Well, pinball and foosball tables, but don't expect the old fratty kind. The ones in store at Dior feature designs inspired by baubles from the collaboration.
Oh wait, there are Dior x Reyle goods on sale, too. Bags, wallets, heels, jewelry, scarves, and limited edition nail polishes and eye-palettes. Art Basel attendees get first dibs, but then the collection will be unleashed at select retailers worldwide on January 9, 2012. No word on whether the food truck will travel.
