Event Recap: Rana Rojo 2013 La Lucha Fashion Show [Gallery]

Rana Rojo 1

Rana Rojo debuted its 2013 La Lucha swim and resort wear collection Saturday afternoon at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens. Inspired by the Mexican wrestling sport Lucha Libre, the collection featured suits in vibrant colors like aqua, orange, pink, and yellow, often color-blocked with silver metallics.

To contrast, hand-drawn custom prints of original textile patterns were found on swimsuits, bolero-style jackets, and coverups in more subdued hues like moss green, dusty blue, and toned-down fuschia. These prints were utilized on both structured pieces like pencil skirts, as well as organic, color-blocked coverups wrapped around the body with ties creating a unique, draped effect.

The looks shifted from playful and colorful to sleek and menacing when the lucha libre mask was incorporated as a print on bikinis, shirts, and coverups in black and white. The final look garnered a reaction from the crowd when a model sauntered down the runway in a black one-piece with a sheer coverup jacket in yellow and blue and a lucha libre mask to match, a long blonde pony tail protruding from the mask.

The collection's debut came with the fashion swim industry's annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim show at the Raleigh Hotel and  the annual Swim Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
