Event Recap: Stoli Hot & Sticki Launch With Mixology Competition at Chalk

Stoli Hot - Spicy Phil Collins

Stolichnaya Vodka threw a big bash at Chalk last night to celebrate their 50th anniversary and the launch of their newest flavored vodkas, Stoli Hot and Stoli Sticki. The flavors are reinvented versions of Stoli Pertsovka (Pepper) and Stoli Okhotnichya (Honey and Herb) that were originally launched in 1962 as Stolichnaya's first-ever commercially produced flavored vodkas. While Stoli created their own signature cocktails for the new jalapeno and honey vodkas, last night the task was on local bartenders to create a winning Hot or Sticki concoction.

Seven mixologists from South Florida got in on the competition representing Segafredo on Espanola Way, Park Tavern in Delray Beach, Novecento in Brickell; Moonchine in the Upper East Side; Bill's Filling Station in Fort Lauderdale; TATU in Hollywood; and the host location Chalk on South Beach. Along with three other media representatives, Société Perrier was there on the judging panel. Each drink was rated on its flavor, originality and presentation.

With evocative names like Fire Water Cocktail, Honey Wish Martini, and Hot Honeymoon, the judges sampled cocktails in the VIP room while the crowd weighed in on the People's Choice Award. In the end, Barbara Moeggenberg of Bill's Filling Station took home the Editor's Choice Award for her Southern Sticki Tea. Served in a mason jar with a bumble bee straw, the drink is made with Triple Sec, Sprite, home-brewed unsweetened tea, and fresh lemon juice. The Stoli Sticki is presented inside a halved lemon peel to be plunged into the cocktail. It was refreshing and crisp, and tasted just like sweet tea!

The People's Choice Award went to Nick Nistico of Park Tavern for his Spicy Phil Collins made with Stoli Hot, homemade Fresno chili syrup, pineapple juice, and lemon juice — the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The People's Choice runner up was Chalk's own Leslie Fickling for her Sticki Paradise, a tart and sparkling concoction made with Stoli Sticki, Midori, lemon juice, simple syrup, and pineapple juice.

The winners went home with goody bags courtesy of Stolichnaya, an annual membership to Chalk's ping pong and billiard tables, and the title of best Stoli Hot and Sticki Mixologist.
