My 5 Favorite Things: Brandon Fogel
I help women decide what's dated and where to fill in the gaps in their wardrobes.
Stylist Brandon Fogel is urging the women of Miami to break out of their fashion comfort zone. "An Herve Leger mini dress and platform Louboutin pump isn't the only look," he says. To gain an edge in fashion-forward style, consider a shopping session with him at Curve, a boutique located in the newly anointed Perry South Beach Hotel. Fogel has worked in visual merchandising for brands such as Just Cavalli, Kenneth Cole, and J. Crew. Now, he is a go-to stylist at Curve assisting his loyal clientele in achieving the coveted "It Girl" look.
Outside the shop, he's an image consultant and personal shopper-for-hire who is particularly adept at closet organization. "I help women decide what's dated and where to fill in the gaps in their wardrobes," he explains. "I also create outfits from what they already have." Fogel's aesthetic leans towards an edgy '90s rocker look a la Mugler and Rick Owens, and he also likes feminine silhouettes juxtaposed with a structural look like the designs of Proenza Schouler. Here are Fogel's fashion tips and Miami faves:
1. Fashion Trend of the Moment: Neon. Neon is going to be huge for Spring, especially neon yellow. I love the yellow Christopher Kane moto jacket we have at Curve right now. It also comes in other neon shades.
2. Designer Obsession: Una Burke. Her pieces are unique and hard to categorize. The structural leather bondage-style pieces can be worn with a flowy dress for a completely unique look.
3. Fashion Icon: Nevena Borissova. Nevena is the owner of Curve and she's the most stylish woman I know. She epitomizes the idea that style is more important than trends. She opened the first Curve in L.A. on Robertson Boulevard in 1997, and there's now stores in New York, Miami, and she just opened the San Francisco store in August.
4. Under the Radar Spot: NeMesis Urban Bistro. This is a new hidden little spot in an up and coming neighborhood downtown. The vibe is great and the food is amazing.
5. Wardrobe Essential: Leather leggings. Every woman needs a leather legging in her closet. It can be worn with anything from a blazer to a chunky cardigan. You can put a dress over it, wear it with sequins, add statement jewelry. It can convey a rock star feel or be styled for every day living.
