Event Recap: Société Perrier Mixology Challenge At The Broken Shaker
Miami's mix masters were out in full force last night at the Broken Shaker for the Société Perrier Mixology Challenge. Mixologists representing the Soho House, Broken Shaker, Lord's Hotel and Living Room at the W South Beach put their skills to the test to create a superior cocktail using Perrier as an ingredient.
Competing for the top prize, an all-expense paid trip to New York for Manhattan Cocktail Class and a stay at The Standard, contestants were given full reign of the Broken Shaker bar and five minutes to mix the winning formula.
Chris Hudnall of the Soho House was first creating a mixture of Oxley gin, ginger syrup, lime juice, lemon bitters, sage and grapefruit Perrier. Vanessa Hulsey of Broken Shaker also incorporated Oxley gin with Yellow Chartreuse and grapefruit bitters into her original concoction, while Junior Fajardo of Lord's Hotel used 42 Below vodka, Mandarine Napolean, melon, and jalapenos in his. Last up was Cameron Scholderer from the Living Room creating a drink with bourbon, black berries, lemon juice, rosemary and sage.
After a taste test by three cocktail connoisseur judges, the competition was narrowed down, but not before the People's Choice Award was granted to Hudnall. The second round got a little complicated with a blind-folded portion, but in the end Broken Shaker's own Hulsey reigned victorious.
