Street Art Gets A New Platform In 'Here Comes the Neighborhood' [Video]
Graffiti art is an often misunderstood genre. It’s also difficult to present, given its typical immobility. In the docu-series, Here Comes the Neighborhood, director Jenner Furst explores the idea of an international outdoor museum dedicated to street art. The pilot season is dedicated to The Wynwood Walls, a home base for street artists from all over the world to fill the streets with color and life.
One of the main focuses of the series is the concept of graffiti art elevating poor areas. “The artform in graffiti can elevate a blighted neighborhood,” says Californian artist Kenny Sharf. “Even on a crappy wall with broken glass and junkies and syringes, there’s a little sign of hope there that somebody has a spark of imagination.”
Founder, Tony Goldman elaborates, “Through paint, energy and creativity, you’re sending out electricity and imagery that elevates…that’s game changing.”
