SLS South Beach is Set to Sizzle in Miami
When it comes to creating knock-your-socks-off hotel concepts, nobody brings it quite like Philippe Starck. The architect behind the Delano and a score of other extravagant hotels and nightclubs is back to his visionary ways, currently putting the finishing touches on his newest project, the SLS South Beach.
Exuding a "dream world" theme, the 132-room retreat boasts decor inspired by Louis XV's storied mistress, Madame de Pompadour, and what Starck describes as a "sexy hell" of a club, Hyde Beach. Though touches like a penthouse designed by Lenny Kravitz (the rocker who brought us the Delano's gone-but-not-forgotten Florida Room) are unique to the hotel's Miami locale, chef Chef José Andrés hopes to recreate the culinary and cocktail magic that's helped make SLS Beverly Hills so successful. Like its west side predecessor, SLS Miami will feature Andrés' upscale tapas restaurant, Bazaar, and the more casual Bar Centro. An Asian restaurant named Katsuya and an adjoining bar, Katsuya Dragon Lounge, are also in the works.
Just last week Miami magazine's Luis Rigua told us how much he's looking forward to the hotel's late-May opening. He pretty much read our minds.
