Use Perrier to offer a light and refreshing lift to Pavan's distinctive flavor, a fine combination of muscat grapes and orange blossoms. Try out Perrier and Pavan on the rocks for an easy spring afternoon, or some Pavan sangria for a new twist on an old favorite.

Pavan and Perrier
2.5 oz Pavan
3 oz Perrier

Method
Combine Pavan and Perrier, serve over ice with a squeeze of fresh Lemon.

Cocktails, masquerade make-up and a set by Bloc Party made this party.

In what other city besides Miami do 500-plus people line up around the block in Wynwood on a Thursday night to catch UK indie tunes while enjoying cocktails? Okay, so that may seem like a normal practice in any major city, but throw in a masquerade theme, a towering DJ and multi-faceted art, and now you’re talking Magic City bliss. Last night, Miami’s finest imbibers headed to Soho Studios to get down in masquerade ball style. Masked guests grinded over strong sips for the three-hour Absolut X Miami extravaganza. Here are a few things we learned at last night’s kick-ass, vodka-doused warehouse shindig.

1. Scratch drawings are always more fun after a few cocktails hit your lips. Remember that nostalgic coloring activity that was around when we were kids? Where you scratched off a layer of black paint with a paper clip, just to reveal a rainbow of colors underneath? Well, picture a mega-sized wall covered in adult graffiti. And, as grown-ups do, we scribbled and tagged the hell out of that wall, which will eventually benefit a local charity, thanks to Architecture for Humanity. Childhood art projects in the name of philanthropy? Count us in.

2. An indoor bar with a DJ spinning on top of it is cooler than a bar without a DJ spinning on top of it. After collecting masks from Absolut X brand ambassadors and posing in the photo booth, it didn’t seem like things could get any more fun but they did. As we waited in line for an Absolut Greyhound (though we preferred John Lermayer’s namesake Absolut X creation at his mixology station), beats boomed from the open area above the roof of the center bar. The traveling structure, which has also hit other Absolut X theme parties, boasted none other than local sound seductress Jessica Who?. The fierce DJ curated the amped soundtrack, while everyone got downright tipsy waiting for Bloc Party to take the stage.

3. Even free drinks taste better as a VIP. With limited breathing room in the cavernous space, the VIP was a much nicer option than cramming the dance floor with everybody else. Not only was there standing room close to the stage and private bathroom access, but the VIP thankfully had two of its own bars to service select movers and shakers. Not to mention, flowing flutes of Absolut Tune, a sparkling wine and vodka-infused concoction that seemed to suit the VIPs, as well as the event.

4. When in doubt, say ‘yes’ to a masquerade-themed makeover. The Absolut X Makeover Masking center was a huge hit with guys and girls, alike. Offering complimentary extended smoky eyes and incognito facial accents, those who indulged sported a fancier look, while the rest of the crowd just settled with free masks, which were just as awesome – especially if making out with a stranger graced anyone’s agenda.

5. Apparently, Arrested Development Fever has spread to the UK. A close-up view of Bloc Party’s hour-long raging set from the VIP offered up small details that many in the general sea were not privy to. The best of the batch was when drummer Matt Tong appeared shirtless halfway through. In between songs, Tong stood up, revealing his hilarious getup – a simple pair of super-short jean shorts. We deemed Tong a never-nude, in lieu of the return of the cult series, Arrested Development this month, also pondering, if perhaps, such a ridiculous custom could possibly be somebody’s reality.

But incredibly, she has never had a solo show at an American museum... until now. Thankfully, MOCA has stepped in to right this grievous aesthetic wrong, by mounting an exhibition entitled Tracey Emin: Angel Without You. While Emin has explored all manner of media in her artistic explorations, the show will focus on an area that has become a crucial part of her canon: her neon signs. There will be 60 different piece from all across Emin's career, including a physically imposing piece which will occupy the MOCA courtyard. Offering further insight into Emin's art and motivations, the show will also include the film Why I Never Became a Dancer, which illuminates the trauma-laden backstory that informs Emin's artistic decisions. Angel Without You runs from December 2013 through March 2014; you'll never see neon the same way again.

We go behind the lens with the Miami Photographer.

After working in the nightlife scene for many years, Mayleen Gonzalez decided to get a "normal" job only to realize that normal wasn't exactly her passion either. She channeled her creative juices into photography and found her calling; now she works as a photographer in both Miami and New York, capturing the beauty of each city in different ways. "I like to shoot outdoors and use them as my backdrop," she says. "I like the colors and beaches of Miami and really love everything about New York."

Gonzalez' portfolio spans various photography genres and styles, ranging from shooting models to bloggers to editorials, and even the occasional wedding. However her most memorable shoot to date is one with Miami Heat player Juwan Howard, after she met him in celebratory spirits. "They had just won the championship and I made him cabbage patch with me," she laughs. "I have the picture to prove it."

We first came across Gonzalez' work when she snapped one of our favorite Miami style bloggers Annie Vasquez (a.k.a. The Fashion Poet) (below), with whom she partners frequently on shoots. "Annie and I work together on different projects and have so much fun," she says. "She has great style and we feature different locations around Miami giving them a street style twist."

Through working with one of Miami's style arbiters, Gonzalez has learned a lot about Magic City fashion. "Miami street style is very random," she says. "During the day you will see some people dressed pretty dope but then you look down at their feet and they are wearing flip-flops — fail. We are big on nightlife so that’s when you see more people dressed."

When asked about her favorite recent shoots she cites a trip to the Everglades, where her model, Kat, showed a high fashion look set against the distressed wilderness. "The trees had burned out recently in a brush fire, so I took advantage and was able to get a great shot," describes Gonzalez.

As for her next steps in photography, Gonzalez longs for a more distant location than Florida. "I want to return to Cuba," she says. "I was there years ago, and I am working on a photography book featuring street art and some of the underground culture."

Check out Butter gallery's newest exhibition and win some art.

Butter Gallery's relocation west of Wynwood earlier this year was an obvious step up: more room and a multi-room exhibition space. "Butter Gallery is a personal vision but one of very wide parameters," says Butter Gallery Director Francisco "Paco" De La Torre IV. "Some people believe the gallery has a particular aesthetic, even with our diverse group of artists."

But, De La Torre notes, "I like to think that Butter Gallery has enhanced the contemporary scene by showcasing local talent that, for years, was not noticed or given the opportunity by other venues."

Butter continues to display artists who love playing with shapes. First Yuri Tuma, with his kaleidoscopic pieces that bordered on mathematical, and now with Douglas Hoekzema's upcoming show. For Hoekzema's opening during Art Walk this Saturday, they're poised to try something new — give some art away. The contest will run for one month and end June 7, and you can win two pieces from Hoekzema's Hox exhibition.

Hoekzema presented a solo exhibition during Scope Miami 2012, and his gestural language continues to evolve toward the physics of movement. He incorporates manual gestures of his over-extended paint strokes with a low-tech mechanism.

Hoekzema is a street artist, architect and designer as well, and it's apparent in his pieces, filled with thin, clean, curved lines and minimal colors. He created the pieces for Hox with nothing but a moving pendulum (as seen here). He creates "prisms of circles in a galaxy of symmetry and illumination of space." It's fascinating in its presumed simplicity, but the work isn't as easy to make as it looks.

For a chance to win a Hoekzema piece, visit Butter Gallery through June 7. When you're there, instagram a Hox piece and use the hashtag #spxartwalk and mention Hox and Butter Gallery.

We spotted a cool camouflage jacket on a student named Timm, a tie dress on blogger Karen Blanchard and Emma blew us away with her sequins and a big bouquet of sunflowers. Hats and headdresses were extremely popular — fedoras, scarves and even a jeweled tiara-like piece made an appearance.

MC Kitchen's Marcus Wade sheds light on the unique flavors.

At MC Kitchen, Marcus Wade's passion for the fermented and the distilled has produced an unusual cocktail menu to wow drinkers and mixologists alike, with clever re-evaluations of old favorites using anything from ketchup to sweet corn. A concept that was more than two years in the making, MC Kitchen is currently the talk of the Design District, and Wade’s philosophy has a lot to do with its popularity. “We pride ourselves as being forward-thinking individuals,” he says of the team behind the establishment. “To quote Miles Davis, ‘Don’t play what’s there… Play what’s not there.’" This philosophy is what led Wade to experimenting with out-of-the-box libation materials, like bell pepper and Alaskan salmon roe. We caught up with Wade to dissect some of MC Kitchen’s most inventive cocktails, and the ingredients that have mixology fans abuzz around Miami.

Unique Ingredient: Salmon Roe
Cocktail: Loki's Quarrel
Recipe: Dogfish Head Saison Du Buff, Meyer lemon, cucumber and Alaskan caviar
Wade’s Notes: "This cocktail was inspired by a Norse mythological story about a quarrel between Thor and Loki. For some time, I’ve been playing with the idea of infusing beer with cucumber and Meyer lemon. My father unfortunately passed away years ago, and he always added salt to his beer. I realized the cucumber and Meyer lemon infusion needed salt. In the myth, Loki changes into a salmon to hide from Thor, and salmon roe would add the perfect touch of salt. The roe is a perfect complement to the cucumber and Meyer lemon infusion."

Unique Ingredient: Florida Sweet Corn
Cocktail: Pachamama
Recipe: Capurro Pisco, Florida sweet corn, Redland strawberries, Molle berries and oregano
Wade’s Notes: “Sweet corn is the heart and soul of our Pachamama. I based this cocktail on the traditional Peruvian corn fermented beverage, Chicha. Although several different varietals of corn are used from region to region in Peru, MC Kitchen always attempts to support local farmers first. Florida sweet corn is quite frankly amazing. I wouldn't choose to use anything else."

Unique Ingredient: Red Bell Pepper
Cocktail: Tommy Pickles
Recipe: Dogfish Head 60 Minute IP, Brooklyn Brine Company Pickles, bell pepper, onion and Cascade Hops
Wade’s Notes: “I truly love the taste of all peppers in general, but the red bell pepper is very special. It has a delicate balance of sweet and heat. This ingredient really compliments the beer, the natural whole leaf hops, the brined pickles and onions. Layering flavor is a must when creating a perfect cocktail or infusion. Red bell peppers are great for creating balance.”

Unique Ingredient: Brooklyn Brine Company Pickles
Cocktail: Galen's Peach (and Tommy Pickles, right)
Recipe: Hangar 1 Chipotle Vodka, Meyer lemon, Brooklyn Brine Company Maple Bourbon Bread & Butter Pickles and Sir Kensington’s Classic Ketchup
Wade’s Notes: “I read an article about Shamus Jones, the owner of Brooklyn Brine Company and discovered the artistry and passion behind the pickling process. Shamus’ passion inspired me and I decided to give him a call, as I was eager to work with his product. A couple of days later, I discovered a shipping palette of Brooklyn Brine Company products at the restaurant’s back door. I was blown away and knew I had to experiment and try every single product.”

Unique Ingredient: Sir Kensington's Classic Ketchup
Cocktail: Galen's Peach
Recipe: See above
Wade’s Notes: “I had a jar of Sir Kensington's Classic Ketchup sitting on my desk at MC Kitchen for some time. I had always considered using ketchup as a replacement for tomato juice in a Bloody Mary. I opened the jar and was astounded by the color – it was blood red. I remembered an old folklore about tomatoes being poisonous to humans around 200 A.D. The legend talks of tomatoes being called "wolves’ peaches." People would use tomatoes to bait and poison werewolves. I immediately took the jar to the bar and began experimenting, and Galen's Peach was born. The sweetness of the product and blood red color is the perfect complement to the spice of the Hangar 1 Chipotle Vodka, Meyer lemon juice and maple bourbon pickle juice.”

The artist presents new works at the Robert Fontaine Gallery.

When I asked Australian street artist Anthony Lister what a day in his life looks like, he explained that he sleeps for three days and then stays awake for a month straight inside his "laboratory," or art studio, overlooking Sydney's Central Station and tries "to break out what painting is and what beauty is."

"Basically, I'm just trying to break art," he explains.

The Brisbane-born artist, a pioneering force in the stencil and street art movement, is prone to speaking in a language of his own, which often involves riddles and clever axioms. He has self-diagnosed himself as suffering from "multiple creative personality disorder," for instance, and his show "Never Odd Or Even" opening at the Robert Fontaine Gallery in Miami's Wynwood Arts District this Saturday May 11, is a palindrome.

He prefers to ask questions rather than answer them, but hints that "the most common answer to what is never odd or even, is zero." And then adds, "I think the justice system is never odd or even, as well." Concerned with social conditions, the lack of guidance amongst men today, and the crime culture of his native Australia, some "Lister-isms" include, "guided missiles, misguided men" and "one man's mess is another man's message."

His latest subject is the female form as ballerina in a series of large scale paintings, smaller studies, and mural work, on display during this solo exhibition. His fluid motion paintings are saturated with color, and bold while also painterly. One can't help but see a modern reference to Degas' ballerinas. However, Lister approaches his subject as strippers who don't take their clothes off. He's more interested in breaking the barriers between highbrow and lowbrow, street art and fine art.

“His work lives on the street and bleeds harmoniously into the formal contemporary gallery setting,” says gallery director Robert Fontaine.

Some of Lister's street art can be found in Wynwood. During last year's Art Basel Miami Beach, he created a ballerina mural on the back of a building on the east side of NW 2nd Ave at NW 23rd St across the street from the Robert Fontaine Gallery. Miami New Times named it one of the top ten new murals in the neighborhood. The wall took him six hours to complete and he did it all from the ground. Working with the landscape of the wall and other nearby objects, he painted a drain pipe black to depict a pole with a dancer's leg behind it and hand wrapped around it, and a telephone pole in the foreground is also painted with bits of pink and black tutu.

He calls some of his street art "adventure painting," which he describes as owning chance and accident. This is a practice he explores through mirrored diptych murals. "The best analogy is through skateboarding. When you land a trick, it may have been a fluke, it may have been lucky, but to do it again is to own it. It’s to own it as your trick," he explains. "So it’s kind of like rubbing your hands through a bunch of wet paint and then discovering that that’s beautiful, and well, I need to do it again."

Since returning to Miami for his upcoming show, he's painted another mural at 175 NW 23rd Street resembling a masked face with ominous, leering yellow eyes and a smug smirk in the style of his maniacal super hero works. He believes street art is the "final frontier in true artistic integrity," but in the meantime he's disguising himself as a fine artist "until the revolution is fully here."

When the Pubbelly Group opened its fifth restaurant, PB Steak, in Sunset Harbour, they tapped Miami mixology maven Ashley Danella to create a beverage program that complements the fare at their steakhouse with a modern twist and focus on small plates. Her challenge was to create cocktails that not only stand alone, but that also pair nicely with a meal, almost the way a sommelier might select wine to pair with certain dishes.

"We wanted to create something for everyone and also reference what they do in the kitchen," Danella explains. "The idea is to create cocktails that are easy, fun, and approachable."

This can be seen in the simplicity of the seven featured cocktails on the menu. A variety of spirits are represented, yet each cocktail features no more than three or four ingredients. That nod to Chef Jose Mendin's kitchen is apparent with fresh herbs, like thyme and rosemary, and housemade ingredients, like nutmeg syrup and raspberry jam.

"We didn't want drinks that are too sweet or creamy," she says. "Nothing that coats the palate." She was also cognizant to create bright, refreshing cocktails that can be enjoyed in Miami's hot climate.

Some of the standout drinks on the menu include Roquette Fuel made with gin, fresh arugula, lemon, and cracked black pepper. The flavors are a fresh melange of sweet, bitter, and peppery. Another is the Desert Nectar made with tequila blanco, fresh pressed Granny Smith apples, lime, local honey, and sea salt. She's discovered that whiskeys pair nicely with meat dishes, and the Brown Eyes, made with bourbon, thyme, local honey, and lemon is a popular choice. She also enjoys serving Amaro liqueur with dessert.

A veteran behind the bar for nearly a decade, Danella has worked at such South Beach icons as Nikki Beach, CroBar, Sushi Samba, Hakkasan, Burger & Beer Joint, and the Broken Shaker. At PB Steak, she welcomes collaboration with the kitchen, and the fun, fresh, seasonal, and simple approach to mixology.
