Diplo @ Igloofest 2012
C’est devant plus de huit mille personnes que le célèbre DJ de Philly, Diplo, s’est présenté à Montréal pour offrir aux Igloofesteurs une soirée rocambolesque. Déjà réchauffée grâce à un DJ set infernal de Black Tiger Sex Machine, plusieurs danseurs ont retiré leurs habits hivernaux pendant le set de Diplo. Les -15° Celsius n’ont pas eu raison des spectateurs, grandement motivés par les nombreuses interactions du DJ loquace, tout au long de la performance. Musicalement, on peut dire que Diplo est un véritable maître des platines : il a su mettre de l’avant tous les genres avec brio.
Famed Philly-bred DJ/producer Diplo was in Montreal yesterday to offer a night chockfull of musical and assorted hijinks to the more than 8,000 Igloofesters who had gathered in the Old Port. It’s worth noting that the crowd had already been thoroughly warmed up care of an inferno DJ set – spread out over four turntables – from the new heartthrobs of Montreal nightlife, Black Tiger Sex Machine. It wasn’t atypical to catch sight of dancers doing away with all protective winter wear during Diplo’s set, to cool down from the heat generated from his bonfire of blazing rhythms…even though the temperature outside actually hovered around -15° Celsius! We know Diplo as a very garrulous lad, and he didn’t disappoint last night with his monster stage presence and effusive interaction with the crowd. Musically, we can affirm without a hint of hesitation that he was a bona fide master behind the decks. Rarely do we have the chance to take part in a night where so many musical styles are sampled, and Diplo did this seamlessly.
Société Perrier avait eu vent de la tenue d’un after-party secret en présence du DJ au Velvet, une boîte de nuit située près de l’Igloofest. Nous nous y sommes rendus dans l’espoir d’y croiser et d’entendre Diplo. Mission réussie et quel moment ce fût! Le décor et l’ambiance du Velvet a su ajouter une valeur exceptionnelle à cette fin de soirée sélecte, où quelques centaines de personnes ont eu le privilège de danser sous l’emprise des rythmes éhontés de Diplo. Bref, une soirée dont les montréalais se souviendront longtemps!
Société Perrier heard through the grapevine about a hush-hush after-party with Diplo being held at Velvet, a swanky speakeasy located nearby. So we headed there in the hopes of crossing paths with Mr. Worldwide Riddimz himself. Mission accomplished, and what a moment it was! Velvet’s décor and ambiance were perfectly suited for the occasion, leading an air of refinement and exclusivity to the proceedings. And what a way to cap off the night, with a few hundred people getting the privilege to dance well into the wee hours to Diplo’s brazen amalgam of rhythms. In sum, a night Montrealers aren’t soon to forget!
